I'm almost done with Spooky, but figure I best left him alone for the night so I can see him with fresher eyes tomorrow. In the meantime, I have a client who wants me to do a portrait of his girlfriend's two black poodles. This person also happens to be a good friend, so he just told me to let him know when I'm ready to do the commission, no hurries. Well, since I've never done a black poodle before, I think I might practice before starting the real McCoy, right?
Here we go, I'm doing an exercise from Lee Hammond's How to draw realistic pet portraits from photographs. Luckly, there's a black poodle, YAY!!! I'll post the progression of this exercise with pics only and when I start with the two "real" poodles, I'll make it into a tutorial.
It's going to be 8"X10" on Strathmore Smooth Bristol Plate and so far all I used was an Ebony pencil to establish some darks.
Hugs,
Jade
